GROUNDING AND SETTLING with Kris Seto (30 min)

Sight and thought are often over-privileged in our society, but we see and sense with so much more! Join us as we slow down our inputs and nervous systems, and drop into the body in search of an expanded sense of time, presence, and awareness. We'll ease into the day ahead with softness.

EARTH SOUNDING: Letting Go of Grief + Creating Your Sacred Space Through Sound with Megan Henry (45 min)

Learning to use vocal sounds to clear your energy, your space and learn to listen to your inner heart.

DANCE YOUR HEART OUT with Sondra Loring (30 min)

Great music to inspire fun and sweaty dance sequences to inspire us to keep going in this crazy world. We'll warm up and learn simple steps and then rest in the sweet afterglow.

MINDFULNESS IN MOTION: How we THINK is how we MOVE! with Becky Sandler (45 min)

Open to all ages and ability, this introductory Alexander Technique workshop will reveal how a change in our thinking can both reduce tension and encourage flow, balance, and joy in the movements of our everyday life. With playful exploration of gentle movement and awareness activities, we will discover how the Alexander Technique can help us move freer and feel easier in mind and body as we go about our day.

TAI CHI with Robert Manenti (45 min)

Tai Chi is based on the idea that mind, body, and emotion are inseparable. The exercises are designed to facilitate physical, mental, and emotional development. Consisting of 124 movements, it is performed in a slow, rhythmic, continuous motion which relaxes the body and helps promote blood circulation. Tai Chi strengthens muscles and joints and while it develops concentration and awareness, it helps relieve fatigue, tension, and stress. Tai Chi is a complete physical exercise bringing stimulation and health to all parts of the body. It may be taken up by anyone regardless of gender, age, or health.

THE JOY OF DANCE with Alain "Hurrikane" Lauture (45 min)

My classes will consist of physical rhythmic exercises that will enable their body to be open to movements, enable their ears to be open to music, enable their mind to expand creatively.

PLAYFUL EMBODIMENT with Alison LeBrun (45 min)

Let's explore you! If your body could talk what would it share, and how would YOU like to express it? In this class we will use movement, improv, physical storytelling & performance art techniques to create a self portrait. This class is all about discovery, exploration and having fun with what you are experiencing right now.

The week leading up to 7/2, the young people will be spending five days training with NYC artists Alain "Hurrikane" Lauture, Miki Michelle, Jayson P. Smith, and Kris Seto. They'll be training in a variety of forms, including Hip-hop/Locking, yoga, leadership, somatics, and writing. Come cheer them on as they share all the knowledge they've learned over the course of the week.

Alain “Hurrikane” Lauture (he/him) | @hurrikane_alain

Born in Port-au-Prince Haiti, raised in Stamford, Connecticut and currently residing in NYC, Alain Lauture better known as "Hurrikane'' found high interest in dance in 2007. Being very determined to seek knowledge and training while dancing everyday forced him to grow at an alarming rate. Known in the underground scene for his spontaneous freestyle as a "Locker”, and his versatility as a dancer granted him awards at many competitions & battles including "Juste Debout 2011" and “Locking Forever” during Amsterdam’s Summer Dance Forever Festival 2017 and 2018. Performing for MTV, Samsung, Microsoft, Madonna, and Janet Jackson he now adds to his resume his newfound skill in choreography, with "Motivating Excellence" program training with world renowned choreographer "Rhapsody James". As he steps into the world of creation, cultivation, and direction, Hurrikane is determined to spread light and create magic through his talents as both a dancer and choreographer.

Alison LeBrun (she/her) | @alisonlebrun @permissiontoplay

Alison Hunt LeBrun is a physical storyteller, movement artist and facilitator. She incorporates her training in playback theater, acting, yoga, dance, body talk, and 10 years working as a professional Performance Artist with TEN31 Productions in her work and classes. She believes art & creative expression are powerful tools for building a world that is a safe playground for all beings.

Becky teaches both private and group Alexander Technique lessons in Hudson, NY, NYC and online. She received her 1600 hour, three year teacher certification at Riverside Initiative for the Alexander Technique (RIAT) where she is now an affiliate faculty member. She is committed to helping her students discover ease in their daily activities, enjoy reduced tension, pain and anxiety, and find more freedom of mind and body.

Jayson P Smith (they/them) | @jaysonpsmith

Jayson P. Smith is an interdisciplinary artist & writer from the Bronx. Their work seeks to interrogate & challenge colonial legacies through language, movement, and somatic practices. J has performed in numerous venues throughout the U.S., such as Brooklyn Museum, MOMAPS1, Loft Literary Center, & Ace Hotel NYC.

Kris Seto (they/them) | @setoburrito

Kris Seto is a movement artist, writer, creative director, and somatics healing practitioner whose work explores queer and asian diasporic interiority, embodiment, media, and dominant colonial narratives as they live in our bodies. They seek to explore the edges where language fails us and to create containers for possibility, liminality, and liberation.

Megan Henry (she/her)

Megan has been singing professionally since the age of 13. She began studying classical music and opera at 10 and went on to study at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and the Manhattan School of Music. She later ventured out into improvisation, worked with Music for People programs and found herself singing for ceremonial gatherings. Here she developed what she calls Earth Sounding. Making connection through vibrations of our voice and body with the earth and surrounding energies. A way to find peace and healing.

Miki Michelle (she/her) | @miki_michelle

Miki Michelle is a multifaceted performance artist with a “True North” for heart-centered connection, authentic communication, and embodied awareness.

From dancing on some of the biggest stages with world renowned artists, to solo backpacking trips around the world, Miki is dedicated to freedom of spirit through the cultivating of curiosity, compassion, connection, and courage in movement and in life—and she is passionate about helping others do the same.

Robert Manenti

Robert Manenti has studied authentic Yeung Style Tai Chi from his teacher John Conroy for greater than 30 years. John Conroy is a disciple of Gin Soon Chu and continues to train with Yueng Ma Lee, daughter of Master Yueng Sau Chung. Robert has also accompanied his teacher and studied under Yeung Ma Lee in Hong Kong. Additionally, Robert is also a registered nurse working at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson, New York.

Sondra Loring (she/they) | @sloring19

Sondra Loring, founder of the Improvisation Festival/NY and a NYC choreographer, relocated to the Hudson Valley, where she/they rocks the dance scene. Sondra teaches dance and yoga, and performs, often in unusual places, including the Pocketbook Factory, Basilica Industria, Olana and the Saugerties Lighthouse. They bring together dancers, musicians, artists to create new experiences for audiences. Sondra received a BESSIE (NY Dance and Performance Award) for their participation in the NYC dance world as a performer, improviser, and writer. Sondra directs the Sadhana Center for Yoga and Service Project, bringing yoga into local jails, prisons, recovery centers and partners with the Greater Hudson Promise Neighborhood.

ACCESSIBILITY

  1. The site will be outdoors in a pavement parking lot accessible by wheelchair. There is a slight decline/unevenness. We will have shade structures, water for refills (bring your own bottle), and sunscreen. Indoor air conditioning will be available next door for those who need to cool off.

  2. There are three indoor bathrooms in a building next door approximately 50 feet away. Entrance includes a five foot ramp. One is bathroom is wheelchair accessible (approximate distance from door: 10 ft. of carpet, 40 ft. hardwood floor).

  3. Masks and social distancing are encouraged, but optional since this is an outdoor event.

  4. We will have extra chairs to sit, but feel free to bring your own if you have one.

ABOUT CLUBHOUSE

The Youth Clubhouses provide a safer space for 12-17 year olds to build community and access wellness programs, prosocial activities, and work opportunities. We are youth-led, and practice harm reduction, restorative justice, and peer leadership. Funded by NYS Office of Addiction Services & Supports through the Mental Health Association of Columbia-Greene Counties.
